Troy Bayliss was born in Taree (Australia) the 30th of March 1969.
Bayliss started racing in 1992 on a Kawasaki KR-1 in the 250 cc. Production Class. In 1993 Troy moved up to a Kawasaki 600 and raced a few national events. 1994 Troy rode the same bike in the Australian 600 Championship finishing sixth. He also won the 600 race at Bathurst. That would be the last time that motorcycles would race there (until this year). In 1995 he rode in the Australian 600 Championship finishing second. In 1996 the first year in the Australian Superbike Championship riding a Kawasaki, Troy finished third in the Championship. In 1997 Troy was second in the Australian Superbike Championship riding a Suzuki. He also finished fifth in both races of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island. Also in 1997 Troy finished 6th in the 250 Grand Prix at Phillip Island. For 1998 Troy moved to England to race the British Superbike Championship riding for the GSE Ducati INS Racing Team. Troy finished eigth in the Championship. In the 1999 British Championship, again with the GSE Ducati INS Racing Team, Troy won the Championship by 28 points, having 6 wins, 6 pole positions, 5 times on the front row (excluding pole positions) and 14 podium finishes.
For 2000 Troy started racing for the Ducati Vance & Hines team in the United States in the AMA Superbike Championship. Bayliss set pole positions with the American Ducati in the Daytona 200, held in March and the rain postponed (or cancelled) Sears Point race in May. Troy has now been assigned a permanent seat on the World Superbike Ducati InfoStrada Team after an exciting win at the Hockenheim, Germany round of the Championship.
Troy Bayliss is married to Kim and they have two children, Mitchell and Abbey.
